Injection Moulding Automoción Camera Module and Small Housing Components

This manufacturing case covers compact injection moulded components used around automotive camera modules, sensors, plugs and positioning assemblies. Although the parts are small, they can combine alignment, fastening, protected openings and visible surfaces in a limited package.

The photographed group illustrates why the housing must be reviewed together with its mating parts and assembly sequence instead of being treated as an isolated plastic component.

Alignment and Locating Features

Camera and sensor assemblies depend on the relationship between the housing, locating surfaces and adjoining components. DFM identifies the dimensions and datums that influence positioning, then reviews how shrinkage, gate location and ejection could affect them.

Fastening Features in a Compact Housing

Bosses, clips, ribs and small openings must fill correctly without creating excessive local thickness. The design review considers draft, rib proportions, steel access and the load path through the assembled part.

Protected Openings and Assembly Interfaces

Openings for cameras, sensors, cables or fasteners must remain compatible with the surrounding assembly. Parting lines, shut-offs and ejector locations are planned so they do not interfere with the functional edge or the installation sequence.

Material and Surface Decisions

PA, POM, PP, PC/ABS, TPE, TPU and other automotive-grade resins may be considered according to stiffness, wear, flexibility, heat, environment and appearance requirements. The final material and colour are confirmed against the customer specification.

Trial and Inspection Focus

Trial samples are evaluated around alignment features, fastening points, opening geometry, mating fit and visible surfaces. The feedback is used to refine tooling or processing before repeat production. Inspection points are selected according to the features that control assembly and function.
